Educational objectives

Core objectives The Korean history graduate program aims to develop a broad understanding of historical research methods and historical thinking and inquiry skills through systematic research and education in history, especially Korean history, and furthermore, to cultivate creative, critical, and rational historical consciousness
Detailed objectives
1. Cultivate capable scholars who specialize in researching Korean history.
  • 1-1 Ensure basic knowledge of each era from prehistoric times to modern history.
  • 1-2 Develop the ability to interpret various historical materials, including reading classical Chinese.
  • 1-3 Develop expertise in the department's specialized fields such as urban history, archaeology, and international relations history.
2. Cultivate public historians who can work in various historical fields in society using historical knowledge.
  • 2-1 Understand theories and research methodologies of public history.
  • 2-2 Accumulate field experience through connections with museums or excavation sites.
  • 2-3 Learn how to use convergence technologies.
Research areas
1. Korean History
Contribute to the development of human culture by objectively identifying the universality and specificity of Korean history and placing Korean history in world history through period-specific research on the history and culture of the Korean people, including ancient Korean history, Goryeo dynasty history, Joseon dynasty history, modern Korean history, and contemporary Korean history.
2. Seoul Studies
In line with the specialization direction of the university and department, conduct multidimensional research on the history, cultural heritage, and urban space of Seoul, the capital of the Republic of Korea, to shed new light on Seoul's history and present a future-oriented historical perspective.
